Celebrity Stylist Maeve Reilly Designs New Barbie Inspired by Her Signature Street Style (Exclusive)

Barbie just got a cool-girl makeover.
Mattel tapped celebrity stylist Maeve Reilly to introduce a trend-forward version of the iconic doll inspired by her signature street style flair. Reilly, whose clients include Hailey Bieber, Megan Fox and Eva Longoria, tells PEOPLE that the partnership is “the deepest honor.”
“Barbie is an icon, and it’s been such an honor and such a pinch me moment for my inner child,” she says. “Just truly nostalgic.”
Like so many others, Reilly grew up playing with Barbie and even had her very own “weird Barbie” (made famous by Kate McKinnon’s portrayal in 2023’s Barbie).
“I definitely was experimenting and doing things and trying on different outfits,” the stylist recalls. “I think as a little kid, Barbie is an amazing opportunity to stretch your creativity and come up with different outfits.”

Reilly’s Barbie serves as a snapshot of current fashion trends, many of which have spawned from the stylist’s looks for her celebrity clients. The doll’s white tube top, wide-leg jeans and oversized leather jacket are reminiscent of the cool-girl aesthetic perpetuated by stars like Bieber and Fox.
“I came up with different mood boards, and we went back and forth with what we thought the look should be,” Reilly says of the year-long design process with Mattel. “I really wanted to capture this moment… I also wanted it to be something that I would wear, that my clients would wear. I’m sure I’ve probably styled this exact look on clients before.”

Rather than being inspired by a specific muse, though, Reilly says that the Barbie is “really just a reflection of how much people love to recreate looks that their favorite celebrities are wearing, and how attainable that is today.”

“So much what I love that about my job is watching people recreate looks,” she continues, “and I feel like that was expressed in Barbie’s look.”

In addition to designing her very own Barbie, Reilly recently launched her own fashion label, Local Love Club. A portion of her brand’s proceeds support the Kind Campaign, a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading awareness about bullying through in-school assemblies and educational curriculums.

This mission is not dissimilar from the message she hopes to send with her Barbie.
“I think it’s just about saying to people, ‘Be yourself. Be your most authentic, bold, creative self,’ ” Reilly says. “And never, ever give up on your dreams. I don’t think I could have ever dreamed this big, truthfully… And so, I just think it is a message to everyone to just keep chasing those dreams, because you really never know what can happen.”
The Styled by Maeve Reilly Barbie retails for $45 and is available on Mattel Creations starting on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
