There’s plenty of action — as well as a nod to a beloved “Karate Kid” figure — in the new trailer for the upcoming sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai,” which came out July 1.
The trailer opens with an image of Terry Silver being led away by police.
“We’ve been through a lot to get to this point, but now we’re finally on the same page,” Ralph Macchio’s Daniel says in a voice-over featuring images of him with William Zabka’s Johnny.
“We may have settled things in the Valley, but now we have to be ready for whatever the world throws at us,” Johnny says over a shot of a newspaper covering the scandal that rocked their dojos.
(There is profanity in the trailer below.)
Johnny then talks about the Sekai Taikai tournament, which will feature worldwide competition, before we see shots of him and Daniel training their students.
“Our strength is we teach both styles equally,” Daniel says. “Don’t jeopardize that balance, man.”
“Since when do I run s— by you?” a defiant Johnny asks.
“Since we have no idea what we’re up against,” Daniel forcefully replies.
Meanwhile, Kreese (Martin Kove) resurfaces, looking menacing while he trains his own crew. And Sam, Tory, Miguel and Robby appear to work through new drama before the trailer ends with a real tease.
“What’s that?” Daniel says while someone opens what looks like a door or the top to a chest.
“Miyagi-san buried secrets for a reason,” Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) says, referring to “The Karate Kid’s” beloved Mr. Miyagi (played by the late Pat Morita), while he, Daniel and Daniel’s wife peer inside.
“If we open, anything is possible.”
Macchio dropped an earlier trailer May 2 for the long-awaited sixth season of the Netflix series.
“It’s happening!! Here we go! Super sized! The grand finale. 15 episodes. A three-part event. It begins July 18!” Macchio captioned the clip.
The trailer opened with students working on karate.
“I love the smell of karate in the afternoon,” Daniel announced.
The trailer also featured a quick glimpse of Daniel and Johnny tangling in the All Valley Karate Championship from the original “Karate Kid” before bowing to each other in the present day.
Johnny also appeared to continue training, while Sam, Daniel’s daughter, looked to square off against Tory. Johnny and Chozen also showed off some moves.
The trailer was heavy on action, with all sorts of fighting on the horizon.
“Cobra Kai is back,” Kreese announced.
The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” came out in 2022, so if you need a refresher on what to expect and what went down, read on.
How many episodes of the final season of ‘Cobra Kai’ will there be?
The final season will be 15 episodes. That’s a change from all of the other seasons, which each had 10 episodes.
When will the final season of ‘Cobra Kai’ premiere?
The final season has been touted as a “three-part event.” Part one drops July 18, while the second installment will be released on Nov. 28. The “finale event” is coming in 2025, with no date given.
What happened on the last season of ‘Cobra Kai’?
The fifth season ended with a bang. Actually, it ended with a lot of kicking and punching, as Daniel, Johnny and their students defeated Cobra Kai, while Terry Silver, whom Daniel took down in a fight, was arrested. Silver’s former students also turned on him after discovering his true evil side.
Meanwhile, Kreese faked his death and escaped from prison. Tory and Robby worked out their differences and Sam and Miguel realized their feelings for each other.
Does the final season of ‘Cobra Kai’ mark the end of the ‘Karate Kid’ universe?
Um, no. Not by a long shot. In November 2023, it was announced that a new “Karate Kid” movie was in the works with Macchio and Jackie Chan, who starred in the 2010 remake. While no plot has been revealed, that film will also feature Joshua Jackson and Ming-Na Wen.
It’s expected to come out in 2025 and there is no information on whether the new flick will have any connection or tie-in with “Cobra Kai.”
