Erica Ash from ‘MADtv’ and ‘Survivor’s Remorse’ dies at 46, her mother confirms

Erica Ash, the actor known for her role in “Survivor’s Remorse” and “MADtv,” has died. She was 46.

Ash’s mother, Diann Ash, confirmed her death from cancer in a statement to TODAY.com on July 29.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Erica Chantal Ash (1977-2024). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she transitioned peacefully surrounded by her loved ones,” the statement begins.

“Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and genuine zest for life,” Diann Ash continued. “Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.”

Diann Ash added that in honor of her daughter’s memory, “the family asks that any donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or the Breast Cancer Foundation of your choice. We are grateful for the kind expressions of love and support during this difficult time.”

Erica Ash was part of the comedy sketch show “The Big Gay Sketch Show” from 2006 to 2008, before joining “MADtv” in 2008 during its 14th Season. The comedian was known for her celebrity impressions of Michelle Obama, Naomi Campbell and Whoopi Goldberg, among others.

She went on to have roles in movies like “Scary Movie V,” “Miss Me This Christmas” and “You Can’t Fight Christmas,” “The Big Bend” and “Outlaw Johnny Black,” among others.

She also appeared in 36 episodes of “Survivor’s Remorse,” according to IMDB, and was a part of “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and “In Contempt.” Her final role was appearing in one episode of “Extended Family.”

As news of her death broke, friends and fans expressed their condolences on social media.

Loni Love posted a photo of the two, writing on Instagram, “I am sad to confirm my friend and fellow actress Erica Ashe’s passing…. Erica was talented and hilarious whether it was the show Survivor’s Remorse or Madtv she would put her all into her work. She would always just be there.. now she’s gone.. My sincere condolences to her family and fans”

Tisha Campbell also posted a selfie with the late Erica Ash, writing that her heart aches so much.

“God I will miss you. With all the ugliness that this world and sometimes our industry brings there are few among us that are the LIGHT and you are that for so many. You are talented, you are funny, you are brilliant and you are flying with much earned wings. My God Erica this is a rough one man!!!! I love you my little sister RIP,” the actor wrote.

Jon Cryer also tweeted that Erica Ash “was such a joyful presence” when she was a guest star on “Extended Family.”

Many others also shared their favorite memories and clips from her movies and shows on social media.
