Kelly Clarkson’s fans scream for a collaboration after she covers a Carrie Underwood hit

It takes one “Idol” to cover another.
Kelly Clarkson recently performed fellow “American Idol” champion — and new judge — Carrie Underwood’s hit “Blown Away” during the “Kellyoke” portion of her talk show.
Clarkson, who has said people confuse her for Underwood, gave a vintage performance, showing off her own well-known and respected vocal range in a track that had previously shown off Underwood’s own vocal talents. Clarkson especially hit all the right notes while singing “blown away” during the chorus, holding the notes multiple times and reminding everyone of her talents as a singer, as if anyone could forget.
Fans who watched the act on YouTube cheered the performance, while also dreaming about a Clarkson-Underwood collaboration.
“We still need a Kelly and Carrie duet!!!” one person raved.
“We need a full length album collab with Kelly and Carrie,” another fan suggested.
“I LOVE that your doing Carrie cover so beautiful! Love love. Carrie is queen and so is Kelly!” someone else gushed.
“I am BLOWN AWAY by the performance,” one fan wrote, employing a little wordplay with the song’s title.
“The only other person who could do a Carrie song justice,” another person wrote.
“I could literally just hear her sing every day! her and Carrie should do an collab! Who’s with me?” someone else commented.
“Blown Away,” released in 2012 from the album of the same name, was a huge hit for Underwood, reaching the top spot on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart for two weeks, while also peaking at No. 20 on the Hot 100. The track also earned her a pair of Grammy Awards for best country song and best country solo performance.
There’s a certain poetry in Clarkson covering Underwood now. On Aug. 1, ABC announced Underwood would return to “American Idol,” replacing Katy Perry for the show’s upcoming 23rd season, set to premiere in spring 2025.
Clarkson, of course, won the show’s inaugural season in 2002, while Underwood won Season 4 in 2005. The two have been rumored to have a feud, something Clarkson says is simply not true.
“People always pit us together, and we don’t even know each other well enough to be pitted against (each other),” Clarkson said on “Watch What Happens Live” in 2023. “Like, literally we’ve run into each other a handful of times, and there’s no beef between us. There’s nothing between us. We don’t know each other. We’ve literally run into each other a few times.”
