BIDEN DIDN’T PASS TORCH

U.S. President Joe Biden can say he “passed the torch” all he wants, but he’s no Olympian and there was no torch-passing.
His bit about it now being the time for a new generation, new voices, fresh voices and even younger voices was lost on me.
Kamala Harris will soon be 60. She’s laughed more in the past three years than anyone on planet Earth. She loves Venn diagrams, yellow school buses and can ramble on about the passage of time like there’s no tomorrow.
Anyway, to wrap this up, Joe Biden did not pass the torch. He was forced to hand it over.

DISGUSTING INDEED
Re: YOU SAID IT: Disgusting that family deported, letter to the editor, July 26
Thank you to letter-writer Rene Klabouch for saying what everyone is thinking. The Chavez family should never have been deported; they sound like a nice family.

They have a whole community behind them and I would say most of Canada. We are putting a lot of money into tent housing for asylum seekers. Hey, and let the gangs stay here. Maybe if we deported some of them, they would think twice about committing crime.
I say the same thing: “Can’t wait for Justin Trudeau to be gone.” But don’t complain when a new government starts cutting all the waste.

BRIDGE WORK QUICK TODAY
The traffic disruption during bridge replacement on Highway 417 was certainly a big inconvenience for some, although I can’t understand why these people still make a major flap when the modern rapid bridge construction technology is a quantum leap from years ago. Drivers once endured months of restricted single lanes, temporary closures, dust, dirt and aggravation. Now the inconvenience is over in a single weekend. Major improvement.

Another thing I don’t understand is why the Ontario Ministry of Transportation needs to shut down such a long stretch of 417 — this time, from Carling Avenue to Metcalfe Street. Why wasn’t Parkdale Avenue to Bronson sufficient, allowing use, entry and egress much closer from or to many off-Queensway destinations? Anyone from the MTO care to explain?
