Sarah Danser, a regular contestant on “Naked and Afraid,” died at the age of 34 after being involved in a car crash in Hawaii, police said.
A 59-year-old man driving in the Kahala neighborhood on Sunday, Oct. 20, lost control of his car and crashed into a parked vehicle, Honolulu police told KHNL, an NBC affiliate in Honolulu, Hawaii. The reality star and master diver, who was wearing her seatbelt, was a passenger in the car and was hospitalized in critical condition.
Police said that speed appeared to be the factor of the accident, not drugs or alcohol. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was in serious condition after the accident. Of the two people who were in the parked car, a woman was in serious condition and a man refused treatment.
Sarah Danser died from her injuries on Tuesday, Oct. 22, her father Dan Danser told the affiliate.
“I actually saw how much of a difference she made in the lives of others,” Dan Danser said, adding, “I think she saved my life once, diving in Indonesia.”
Her brother Jake Danser also told the outlet, “Magical is the way to describe her. Sarah had this positive energy about her that just really filled the environment that she was in.”
Born in Castle Rock, Colorado, Sarah Danser lived in Hawaii for 12 years. She resided part-time on a boat in Kewalo Basin, according to KHNL.
A breast cancer survivor, she also was a boat captain, survivalist and appeared in five seasons of the “Naked and Afraid” franchise. In August 2023, she starred in the CW’s “Fight to Survive.”
Sarah Danser’s final Instagram post was of her smiling wide on a boat.
“Who recognizes this boat? Look who’s driving her!” she captioned the photo.
A slew of messages of condolences and people paying their respects filled the comments section.
