See the moment Savannah Guthrie surprised her kids with a trip to Paris for the Olympics

Savannah Guthrie is in Paris covering the 2024 Summer Olympics with the TODAY team. Now, her kids are with her, too.
On Aug. 3, Savannah posted a video documenting a once-in-a-lifetime surprise for her kids, daughter Vale, 9, and son Charley, 7.
At the start of the video, Vale and Charley circle a laptop resting on a kitchen counter.
“Charley,” Savannah says, getting their attention. “Do you guys want to come to Paris tomorrow and come to the Olympics?”
Their eyes widen in shock. “Yes,” they say in unison.
“OK, you’re coming tomorrow,” Savannah reveals.
Their reactions are priceless. Naturally, both emit high-pitched screams. Charley turns to his sister, then falls to the floor. Vale spins around, her hand covering her mouth. Then, she jumps and says, “Thank you, thank you!”
The video ends with snaps of Savannah hugging her kids after they arrived in the City of Light.
In the caption, Savannah explained how the moment came to be, shouting out co-anchor Hoda Kotb and her husband, Mike Feldman, in the process.
“Just one thing to do when you miss them this much!! and shout out to @hodakotb who dreamed the dream!! And @feldmike for the spontaneity!” she said.
Some of the action Charley and Vale got to witness in Paris included the track and field events. On Aug. 3, Hoda posted a sweet selfie of her with Savannah’s family — including Feldman, Vale and Charley — at the Stade de France track. In her caption, Hoda wrote that the track and field events were “epic.”
Savannah had been teasing her family’s arrival earlier this weekend. On Aug. 3, Savannah posted a video from a French cafe with the caption, “Happiness is waiting for my sweet family to join me in Paris.”
Savannah has been in France since the opening ceremony July 26.
Earlier this summer, Savannah sat down with TODAY.com to reflect on covering the Olympics. She said athletes offer lessons about persistence that she tries to impart to her kids.
“I always think about how many times they fell before they stuck the landing, how many bruises they had, how many hours they practiced by themselves. And that’s why the Olympics mean so much to me. I always tell my kids about working hard. It’s like, if you love Taylor Swift, think how many hours she spent alone playing her guitar or singing her songs or writing. I feel that way about Olympians,” she said.
She also shared her Paris bucket list. “I’d love to just be a Parisian for the day and sit at the cafe and drink a rosé or eat a croissant in the morning. I hear the shopping is good, I’d like to check that out. And I’ve never walked through the Tuileries, the gardens, they’re supposed to be beautiful,” she said.
Perhaps she’ll be able to check some of those boxes off with her family, especially ahead of Vale’s 10th birthday on Aug. 13.
