A POOR EXAMPLE, ETHICALLY SPEAKING

Re: BATRA’S BURNING QUESTIONS: Trudeau is the root cause of lack of ethics in cabinet, online, Nov. 15

Undoubtedly the leader of any government sets the ethical and moral standards for those under their command. Having been found by the ethics commissioner to have seriously breached ethics rules in the past, Justin Trudeau has been setting a terrible example.

Trudeau operates on the principle of rules for me, but not for thee. By acting in such a way, those in his cabinet who also have breached ethnical standards are simply following their leader’s poor example. Of course, Trudeau, by his own ethical or moral standards, can never do anything wrong.

WISE WORDS FROM HARPER

Re: The moral clarity of Stephen Harper, editorial, Nov. 17

These were wise words from former prime minister Stephen Harper regarding the rampant increase of antisemitism in Canada. It was refreshing to hear from a true leader again.

On another note, it’s enough to make one wonder how much stronger the Canadian economy would be if we had a prime minister with a degree in economics instead of a prime minister who was a former part-time drama teacher who then put a former journalist in charge of our nation’s finances.

YES, THIS SENIOR IS UPSET

Re: Open the wallet; Ottawa draft budget sees 3.9% property tax hike, transit fare increases, Nov. 15

Yes, I am a senior citizen. Yes, I am upset about the possibility of a 120-per-cent increase in the monthly senior bus pass, though reports say this may be rolled back in the final budget.

I have stopped relying on the travel planner when the first bus is late or does not arrive. I have to call a taxi to make my appointments, which forces me to pay more money. I have to rely on route schedules to try to plan my trip to allow more time to get to my destination, then deal with the bus alerts. Is my bus cancelled? Bus shelters are inadequate with two seats in a shelter where those with mobility issues are concerned.

OC Transpo is a disgrace for the citizens of Ottawa. Look forward to a decrease in ridership.
