AND STILL THEY CALL FOR CEASEFIRE

Following the greatest slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust on Oct. 7, 2023, Justin Trudeau and Global Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly have been consistently pleading with Israel to seek a ceasefire. This idiocy totally ignores the fact that Iran has called for the total elimination of Israel and that its proxies — Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis — are now attacking Israel, trying to accomplish that.

Thus far, Benjamin Netanyahu, a real leader, has taken out the key leadership of both Hamas and Hezbollah. Even after Iran, the state sponsor of terrorism, recently fired 200 missiles into Israel, the Trudeau government continues begging Israel for a ceasefire.

Trudeau really is the modern Neville Chamberlain, refusing to realize appeasement only emboldens Iran and its proxies.

MEN DYING, TOO

Re: ‘Horrific milestone’; Pro-Palestinian supporters hold rallies around the world marking start of Mideast war, Oct. 6

According to Peter Hum’s reporting, “more than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks, including 127 children and 261 women.” Why single out women? Are we not past the stage where some lives are more equal than others? Where men’s lives aren’t worth making a special note of?

If these deaths are civilian, the death of a civilian male is just as tragic as the death of a female. If they are soldiers, we all know that women play a major role in this violence.

The deaths of children are truly a tragedy because they are innocent of the mutual hatred. But the deaths of men are just as important as the deaths of women and deserve to be equally respected.

CONDEMN INJUSTICE ON BOTH SIDES

Re: Pro-Palestinian march part of global protest against Israel’s invasion of Gaza, online, Oct. 5

It is unrealistic to demand a ceasefire in Gaza without also demanding the release of hostages.

Although it is understandable that groups representing one side of the issue such as Palestinian groups or Jewish organizations should emphasize the injustices against their fellows in the Middle East, groups representing a cross-section of society such as unions and student organizations should condemn injustice and brutality on both sides.

In demonstrations, organizations representing a diversity of religions and ethnicities should carry banners and placards calling for both a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
